Developed as part of the Tenaya's Balance Pro range, the Masai shares many of technical advances of the Tenaya Ra shoe. Balance Pro are a high performance range of climbing shoes offering a perfect balance of features, allowing the user to achieve maximum responsiveness in all types of situations. Described by Tenaya as, "Most effective on long, overhanging routes combining everything from boulder problem crux moves to technical edging, or tenuous smearing - the shoes worn by Alex Megos during his historic world’s first 9a onsight ascent were from the Balance Pro range," these are actually also really comfy mid grade shoes that are perfect for high multipitch crags.
The major differences from the Ra are that in the Masai the design has been optimised for maximum efficiency on micro-edges, and the lace-up closure means the volume of the shoe is infinitely adjustable, ensuring a snug yet comfortable fit. Also, the optimally shaped asymmetric toe-box concentrates all the power of the foot into a very specific area, allowing maximum transition of force onto the tiniest of holds and providing superb control. This all makes it the climbing shoe of choice for vertical or slightly overhanging routes and boulder problems.
