Simple mitts it is true, but incredibly light and effective.
An ideal spare mitt and perfect for warming up cold hands at the top of a long ice pitch. Also great for winter hill walking and ski touring.
It is made from fibre pile (quicker wicking than modern fleeces) and what was known as Pertex 6, the heaviest duty Pertex made by Perseverance Mills. It is the same fabric but is now called Pertex Classic. (NB Some mitts used to be made in Pertex 5, a lighter weight fabric than Pertex 6, but this is no longer available).
