The hand rest for the DMM Vertex ice axes that can be slackened with a lever and moved out of the way up the shaft when using the axe for shaft plunging in steep snow.
Vertex axes come supplied with these so there is no need to buy an extra one, but it also fits the DMM Flux Hammer which is not supplied with one.
