Excellent steep ice and steep buttress crampon with simple no tools length adjustment as per the renowned G12. However on this model the front points are forged vertical format points that can easily be adjusted from bi-point to monopoint (tools supplied). Forged points penetrate hard ice better and with less vibration. They can also be replaced when they wear out. In mono-point format they are excellent for mixed climbing as the vertical single point sits well in thin cracks. However this crampon is still flexible enough for walking in. A perfect all-rounder for those tackling middle to harder grade Scottish winter routes!
There are two binding systems available: Cramp-o-Matic: Full step-in with wire front bail. Quick to put on in a blizzard but you do have to get them on just right - rigid boots only. They are the most rigid option so ideal for more technical routes. New-Matic: Semi-step in with Grivel's excellent plastic toe cap. These are simple to put on and there is a tiny bit more margin for error than with the Cramp-o-matic, thus they can be used on slightly more flexible boots.
Antibott (anti-balling plates) are included.
This Evo model has three major changes over the previous version:
- New heel lever is lighter and has only one moving part (as opposed to five) but still adjusts to all suitable boots.
- The webbing tape is narrower (12mm as opposed to 14mm) and lighter.
- The buckle has been redesigned to be lighter and more compact but still give a strong hold.
All this means that Cramp-o-Matic and New-Matic models are 54g lighter that their predecessors.
Fit only to a B3 Mountaineering Boot.
