Ultralight alloy 12-point crampon designed for ski-touring, lightweight mountain ascents and glacier approaches/descents to alpine rock climbs. Please note that we don't recommend this crampon for UK use, or indeed use anywhere where a lot of rocky ground is likely to be encountered, as it will wear out far more quickly than a steel crampon and it's possible that the points may get bent.
Fits boots from 37 - 46ish. Long Bars are available for larger sizes. It has a simple no tools adjustment. Anti-balling plates are included.
There are three binding systems available:
Cramp-o-Matic: Full step-in with a wire front bail and fairly rigid bar. It's quick to put on in a blizzard and feels more rigid and secure than the other bindings, but you do have to get them on just right - rigid boots only. Fit only to a B3 Mountaineering Boot.
Newmatic: Semi step-in with Grivel's excellent plastic toe cap - but will will fit only on semi-rigid walking boots and stiffer, with a step in on the heel.
New Classic: Superb all encasing basket system that means that you can put this crampon on just about anything that is B2 rated or above, though it is marginally more fiddly to fit than the other models.
The Extra Wide Version (8cm wide at the toe binding rather than 7cm) is designed for use with high altitude double boots that do not have step-in crampon facilities. It also fits most snowboard and telemark boots.
This Evo model has three major changes over the previous version:
- New heel lever is lighter and has only one moving part (as opposed to five) but still adjusts to all suitable boots.
- The webbing tape is narrower (12mm as opposed to 14mm) and lighter.
- The buckle has been redesigned to be lighter and more compact but still give a strong hold.
All this means that Cramp-o-Matic and New-Matic models are 54g lighter that their predecessors, whilst New-Classic models are 14g lighter.
