The Kong Slyde is an ingenious adjuster for ropes that reduces impact forces. It can be used in conjunction with a length of rope with a diameter between 9mm and 10mm (rope not provided) to make an effective by cheap belay anchor system.
The user can self-make their own system that can be fine tuned choosing the most appropriate way for the situation at hand, by taking into account types of rope and connections, number of forces involved, weights, environmental conditions (wet, dust, snow, making the rope stiffer and not so sliding etc), wear, and what could happen during use. When correctly evaluated, those parameters allow one to obtain a perfected system according to his or her requirements.
It’s not as smooth as say the Petzl, Edelrid or Rock Empire bespoke systems, and difficult to adjust one handed and under load, but it all depends on the rope diameter and characteristics, and it does work.
Remember that the free rope end must not slip out from the Slyde, while giving enough length to absorb the greatest foreseen shock!
Because it is not possible to test all configurations and uses, this device is not a PPE and it has not been tested according to EN958.
