Years of experience are evident in this handy pocket sized winter climbing guide to the Cairngorms (including the Northern Corries), Lochnagar and Creag Meagaidh.

The granite peaks of the Cairngorms have extensive areas of high plateau and four peaks over 4000ft - the most popular crags are those of the Northern Corries, but less less crowded Loch Avon Basin crags, such as Hells Lum and the Shelter Stone, are also covered. In addition to these fine areas, the guide also includes the well-known routes on the magnificent cliffs of Lochnagar and Creag an Dubh Loch, as well as more remote and serious climbs on the corries of Braeriach and Beinn a'Bhuird. Though not in the Cairngorms, Creag Meagaidh, noted for its classic ice climbs, is also included. More than 450 winter climbs are described.

The major climbing venues of the Cairngorms have some of the finest winter routes in Britain. Some are easily accessible, others extremely remote, but the climbing is always superb and ranges from a wide selection of snow, ice and mixed routes of varying grades and lengths, from straightforward Grade I snow gullies through to extreme ice and mixed climbs of Grade VII and above. With clear route descriptions accompanied by symbols denoting the type of climb (snow, ice and mixed) and photographic topo diagrams, this guide helps climbers choose the best route for the prevailing conditions. Advice is given on how the required snow/ice conditions form for each climb, as well as how to evaluate avalanche risk, while approach maps for each climbing area show the best routes to access each crag.

This is not a fully definitive guide, but does include every route most people will want to do, and more.
