The Opinel No08 Outdoor has a very strong blade (2.5 mm thick) is serrated over 3.5 cm to cut natural or synthetic ropes and a shackle key for tightening or loosening 4mm to 10 mm shackles. Its handle is water-resistant and withstands extreme temperatures and it is equipped with a pea-less whistle.
- Sandvik 12C27 modified stainless steel is anti-corrosive thanks to the addition of chrome and requires no special maintenance. Its carbon content of at least 0.40% gives excellent cutting edge.
- The polyamide handle is reinforced with fibreglass and withstands knocks, water and temperatures from -40°C to +80°C.
- The stainless steel Virobloc Safety Ring was invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955 and allows the knife to be locked open or closed.
Blade length is 8.5cm (NB this is 3¼" and longer than the 3" for a general pocket knife allowed by UK law, and it is also illegal to carry a locking knife in a public place in the UK without good reason - one needs a special purpose to carry this knife such as mountaineering or sailing).
