Kong
Kong is an Italian company that began life as long ago as 1830 when Giuseppe Bonaiti constructed a forge at the foot of the Alps where agricultural products such as chains, buckles and wire were made. In the 1950s, the much expanded Bonaiti company began making steel karabiners for mountaineering and, in collaboration with Ricardo Cassin, the first D-shaped karabiner - a great improvement in strength. By the 1960s these were being manufactured in alloy, reducing the weight by two-thirds. In 1977, the by now massive climbing side of the Bonaiti company changed its name to Kong and continues to expand and invent highly innovative products.
